Iration

Image

Iration is another California reggae band.  Still coming out with new albums today, this Santa Barbra group is still topping charts with their incredible music.  Comparable to SOJA and Rebelution, Iration sticks to traditional reggae ideals such as courage, love, freedom, strength, loyalty, union, and resistance.  Their music progresses away from traditional “Roots” reggae as most modern reggae bands have done, however their message remains consistent.  As many of their popular songs preach love and happiness, they also stand up for having a consistent mindset focussed on giving back to those who have made your life better.  This message is clear in their new song: Automatic.

Matisyahu

Born Matthew Paul Miller, this artist has within recent years topped charts in the US with his revolutionary music.  Going by his Hebrew name: Matisyahu or “Gift from God,” he has changed the world with some of his songs.  Preaching unity, peace, and a world free from prejudice, his songs One Day and King Without a Crown sample his powerful messages.  In particular, One Day was at one point the most popular song in the world, and was found on many commercials, advertisements, as well as at events.  He single handedly broke down walls between racism and religious prejudice, which fits the reggae message in a by the book fashion.

Rebelution

Image

Rebelution is the second most popular band in the modern era of reggae.  Hailing from San Diego, California, they are known for creating a powerful sound that is very distinct and clear.  As they work closely with other famous bands such as SOJA, their message is similar ones written by Jacob Hemphill.  Rebelution is all about standing up for your rights a person, and they recognize those who do in their songs.  They are also known for creating amazing songs that emphasize love and how important it is in a person’s life.  The songs below do a great job of spreading the reggae message in a powerful, yet intelligent way.

Soldiers of Jah Army “SOJA”

Image

SOJA is the single most revolutionizing reggae band in the modern era.  Hands down, the messages spread by lead singer and songwriter Jacob Hemphill are the most creative and up to date compared to any other musician in the music scene today.  Being called the closest thing to Bob Marley in reggae, Hemphill continues to put out albums that address key problems in the world today.  In the song below, the messages are crystal clear, and preach every important aspect of the reggae message: courage, love, respect, freedom, strength, loyalty, education, union, resistance, and faith.  SOJA is a band from Virginia, making their first visual impression less then stellar.  However, their message is clear, their music is revolutionary, and they are as of now number one in the world for being the most popular and well-respected reggae band in the modern era.
